Jan. 31st: SB79 Does not receive enough votes to pass Senate

Sen. Hayden's SB79 (to put together a taskforce to study the 3-strikes law) did not pass the Senate when it came to a vote on January 31st. It only received 14 votes and needed 21 to pass. The results of the vote are as follows:

AYES
Alarcon Alpert Bowen Burton Chesbro Escutia Figueroa Hayden Hughes Johnston Murray Peace Perata Vasconcellos

NOES
Brulte Costa Dunn Johannessen Johnson Karnette Kelley Knight Leslie Lewis McPherson Monteith Mountjoy Poochigian Rainey Wright

ABSENT, ABSTAINING, OR NOT VOTING
Haynes Morrow O'Connell Ortiz Polanco Schiff Sher Solis Speier Vacancy

The deadline for SB 79 to be passed by the Senate was January 31 so anything on 3-strikes will need to be reintroduced as a new bill.
