Feb. 29th: Assemblymember Rod Wright introduces bill to amend 3-strikes
law
Assemblymember Rod Wright has introduced Assembly Bill 2447 (AB2447)
that proposes to amend the 3-strikes law so the third strike would have to be
"Serious" or "Violent" (basically the same bill that was introduced by Senator
Hayden last year as the original SB79--which was later amended to become a task
force bill).
In addition to Rod Wright, all of the members of the Black
Caucus have signed onto the bill as co-authors along with Latino Caucus member
Gil Cedillo. We are trying to put pressure on the rest of the Latino Caucus
members to also sign on as co-authors so we are encouraging everybody to call
the Latino Assemblymembers and Senators and let them know you would like them
to be a co-author of AB2447 (especially if you live in one of their
districts).

DEMONSTRATION IN SACRAMENTO ON APRIL 4TH!
The Assembly
Public Safety Committee will have a hearing on AB2447 on April 4th. So please,
mark your schedules, set up a vacation day from work, and try your best to
attend (and bring all your family and friends). We will try to arrange for
buses that will be traveling up from Los Angeles (and if there is enough
demand, perhaps one bus can come up from San Diego and also pick up people in
Orange County).
Please send questions or comments to factsla@sbcglobal.net.
