Letter and Poem by a daughter who wishes her 3-strike father were home with her on father's day

11/25/2001

Dear To Whom It May Concern:

Please help me get my father out of prison.

My father, Richard Bowen is serving a sentence of 25 years to life for possession of ¼ gram of methamphetamine. He is incarcerated at Pleasant Valley State Prison in Coalinga California. He has already served seven years. If he were convicted of the same offense today the court would be required pursuant to Prop 36 to offer him drug rehab and no incarceration.

In the next week my father will be filing a petition for writ of habeas corpus to try to get the judge to release him into my custody. The judge who sentenced him to 25 to life is Judge Oberholzer of the Kern County Superior Court. He is the same judge who will be hearing the petition for writ of habeas corpus. The judge's address is 1415 Truxtun Avenue, Bakersfield, CA 93301. My father's original case number was SC67315A.

I am hoping that letters from interested citizens might help persuade the judge to grant the petition that will let my father come home were he belongs. Please send letters to the judge asking him to be fair to my father. If nothing else would you please think of my father in your prayers?

I can be reached at (661) 364-0161 if you have any questions. You may also contact my father's attorney, Nancy Blanton at (661) 859-1091.

Thank you in advance for any help that you may be able to give us.

Sincerely,

Jodi Bowen

Daddy's Day

My daddy,

Dear to my heart.
It left my heart sad when he,
Got torn apart.
Please know
I love my daddy so.
Outside he's tough as leather,
If you know him it doesn't matter.
Inside my daddy is kind and gentle.
I really miss the TV time and when we would cuddle.
My daddy has a real big heart,
But a big stone wall keeps us apart.
Security here and bars over there,
No privacy, they all just stare.
How very horrible for my daddy you see,
I hate that place and wish he was at home with me.

I love you very much daddy,

I hope your home soon!
