Fix 'three strikes' law

THANK you for your story on the Supreme Court and California's "three strikes" law (Page 6A, Jan. 20). California does not have to wait for the Supreme Court to rule on the law. Our prisons are quickly filling with non-violent offenders. If the public will support State Sen. Tom Hayden and his bill, SB 79, to change the law so the third strike applies just to a new violent offense, then we could change the law this year. We should build more schools, not prisons.
