Interesting Comments Made by Archbishop Desmond
Tutu
EAST LONDON (ECN Monday 17 November 1997) - The most vile perpetrator
was capable of change, Archbishop Desmond Tutu reminded those gathered at the
Truth and Reconciliation Faith Community hearings this morning.
Opening the hearings in the Abbotsford Christian Centre, Tutu said: "We are
meant to be able to encourage, jettison that guilt, confess, because God is a
faithful God and will forgive us our sins." He continued: "And we say to those
who have been the victims, be willing to forgive."
He said the
religious community would have to insist that "even the most awful perpetrator
is a child of God" and that such people had the capacity to change.
