3-Strike Stories: Dale
"My 3rd strike is for 'joyriding.' I rented the owner's car but did not bring the
car back by the 6 a.m. deadline. I had held on to the car for 6 additional hours. . . . I
was a cocaine/methamphetamine addict. I am a plasterer/stucco (construction) by trade, and
in Jan. of 1995 I went on worker's compensation for a work-related injury. . . . In Feb.
of 1995 I became addicted to drugs. I lost my vehicles and apartment, and later moved in
with my parents. My parents would not allow me to use their vehicles because of an
insurance issue (if an accident would have occurred, my parents would have lost their
home). At any rate, I began using people to 'taxi' me around town, I rented several cars
before, but this time I returned the car late and the judge gave me 25 years to
life!"
