3-Strike Stories: Johnny De Leon
My name is Johnny De Leon and I am incarcerated in Mule Creek State
Prison. I was 16 years old when I was incarcerated. It was around Nov 5, 1995. They given
me a strike for this offense, and the people that was involved with me in this case were
younger then I and they too were given a strike if not more. Well over the time I have
been in this institution and one befor this one, I have heard a lot of bad situations that
people have been in, because of the 3 strikes law. Like one time, there was a man that had
two strike's. He had no money to buy food, so he took a loaf of bread from the store, and
with that, they struck him out. He got 25 to life, just for taking a loaf of bread to eat.
In little situations some what like this one. Other people are being struck out. It is
things like tat that makes my opinion to the Thrree Strike Law harsh. If a man can put
another man away for 25 to life or more that did a non violent crime, just to look good on
election year, makes you think, how is the real criminal here. I thank you for taking the
time to listen to me.
