3-Strike Stories: Archie Lee Jefferson

1-22-98

Born June 21, 1952.

I was raised up in a broken home. I considered my mother as a father & mother. I wanted to be accepted and recognize by others so I started using drugs and alcohol at the age of fifteen.
At 19, 2nd degree burglary, served one year in county jail, at 22, 2nd degree robbery, served two years in state prison, at 25, 1st robbery and attempted robbery three years & eight months state prison, all prison priors our 23 years old. I was sentence by July Diana Nonthway, due to my past prison priors the Romero decision didn't help me. Before my arrest I was getting my life together, I was working at and-PAC making at 7.50 an hr, full time. I was homeless and lonely. The only friend I knew was alcohol and drugs, however I never did give up on love, hope and faith. I found myself evolved in church once again, and met some great Christian friends. There were a very good reppont with family members. But due to my arrest and conviction under the 3-strikes law, I have lost everything. I feel as though the three-strikes law should be amended to serious and violent crime only, not only felony's. The last time I have committed a serious on violent crime was 23 years ago. My crimes has diminish over the years. I'm no saint by all means, But if there is any man who is never at fault at what he says on does is a perfect man able to keep his whole body in check. The three-strikes law is not a perfect law, especially when the tax payers will be paying for another mans gain. The three-strikes law was design to deter crime in California, not to rob taxpayers
