3-Strike Stories: Michael
"There are defendants that are fighting crimes such as GTA, simple possession of
narcotics, petty theft w/prior, even attempted possession of "imitation"
narcotics . . . some of them receiving sentences such as 25 years to life for petty theft
of a candy bar or slice of pizza . . . Ridiculous! . . . So where is the justice? There
doesn't seem to be any justice, maybe it's the District Attorney referring to his office
as 'just-us' and therefore using defendants such as the petty thieves or drug abusers who
have prior 'serious and violent' convictions as 'puppets' or 'guinea pigs,' so to speak,
as an experiment to see what this law will do to deter crime on the streets--or is it for
political gain?"
